Our Duty

Everyone we support has the right to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. Safeguarding is everybody's responsibility at XCELL, and it comes before every other consideration, including our relationship with a family or a commissioner.

What We Do

To keep people safe:

• Every member of staff completes an enhanced DBS check, reference checks and right to work checks before they start
• Safeguarding training is part of induction and is refreshed regularly
• Staff are trained to recognise and report abuse and neglect, including financial abuse and self-neglect
• We follow the Mental Capacity Act, and support people to make their own decisions wherever they can
• We manage risk positively and with the person, and we avoid restrictive practices
• Concerns are recorded, escalated and reported to the local authority safeguarding team and the Care Quality Commission where required
• We support people to raise concerns themselves, and staff to speak up without fear

Raising a Concern About Us

You can raise a safeguarding concern with us, with the local authority or with the Care Quality Commission, and you can do so anonymously. You do not need to be certain: if something does not feel right, please tell someone.
